Contemporary Issue in Painting (Course)

The lecture for this week is by Chris Kienke. Many artists from various field and their works of painting are shown in the class. Professor Chris Kienke himself is a well-known painter and the head of the art foundation curriculum. I enjoy to look at all those paintings and start to think about them after I see them. All the names of the artists mentioned in class (and which branch of painting they belong to) are listed, and some of the paintings I love are attached.

This photorealism painting by Vija Celmins is painted using graphite. I can image how much work the artist put in.

It is very interesting that although Zhang Xiaogang is using photograph, he do not become the slave of photograph. He add more creative elements to it.

Mark Bradford add more new styles to collages by putting wider range of multimedia material together.

I love this one! Sarah Morris works on pulling the light into it, thus the painting can attract eyes more effectively.

Lucirn Freud is a famous artist coming from a rich family.

It is an watercolor painting of human. I like watercolor and I am practicing after class for so many time this year, but the result is that that good because unlike oil or acrylic painting, watercolor is "less forgiving". Chris Kienke said that the control of brush in watercolor painting demand tons of practive and his words encourage me to practice more.
