Contemporary Issue in Metals and Ceramics (Course)

The lecture of the Metals and Ceramics are given by Professor of Metals, Billie Theide.

1. At the beginning of the class, TAs hand two sheets out to everyone. One is the job opportunity and salary lists for ceramic and the other is for jewelry design. Prior to the class, I have no idea how people from these majors get paid. Now, at least I have something in mind. Some of them are actually pretty high.

2. Professor Billie shows many works of jewery designs to us and some of them are works of aluminis. I personally cannot view the beauty of all of them because most of them are not the style I like. However, they are creative.

3. The making of jewely incorperates the processes of thinking, designing, sewing and wearing. ​

4. The most wonderful and the most impressive thing during the lecture is that Billie shows us a video about the works of ceramics of Korean masters. That is shocking and make me remember the days I spent in the pottery studio when I was in high school. The masters uses blades to cut the pottery and different layers made the pottery colorful.

5. Generally, although the field of ceramic and jewelry design is not what I am interested in, I start to know something about it. It is important for designers to know a little bit of the works of each other.
